About your first visit:
The initial visit is one hour, in which we review your health concerns and goals, and an initial treatment plan will be established. A physical exam may be performed, and laboratory testing may be suggested to help make a diagnosis.
When you book your initial visit, you will be directed to fill out the intake form before you come in. If you have copies of any recent blood work or other labs, those would be helpful to have as well, or Dr. Annie can request them from your doctor. Bring in any supplements you are taking, or document them on your intake form.
Follow-up visits are between 10-40 minutes long and are usually more frequent at the start (weekly to monthly) while we build the most effective treatment plan. Then, it is recommended that patients come every 3-6 months for health maintenance and prevention of disease.
About naturopathic medicine:
Naturopathic medicine is a distinct primary health care system that blends modern scientific knowledge with traditional and natural forms of medicine. It is based on the healing power of nature and it supports and stimulates the body’s ability to heal itself.
Naturopathic doctors can work with your other existing health practitioners, such as medical doctors, chiropractors, nutritionists, etc., to best support your health goals.
The naturopathic doctor program is 4 years at an accredited naturopathic medical school, following a 3 or 4 year pre-medical undergraduate degree.
Dr. Annie Cannon is a graduate of the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine in New Westminster, BC, and a member in good standing of the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors and the College of Naturopathic Doctors of Alberta.
Is naturopathic medicine covered under health insurance?
Naturopathic medicine is not covered by Alberta Health but is covered to some extent under many benefits plans. Check with your individual insurance provider.
